In light of adverse weather conditions sweeping through Dubai on May 2, Emirates has issued a statement cautioning travelers about potential flight delays and cancellations. Intercity bus operations by Dubai’s RTA have also been suspended as a precautionary measure.

Emirates announced the cancellation of several flights from Dubai to key destinations like Istanbul, Johannesburg, Nairobi, Cairo, Amman, and Singapore. However, the airline assures affected customers that rebooking fees will be waived, and they will be re-accommodated. Travelers are advised to reach out to their travel agents or nearest Emirates Office for assistance.

Flydubai, another Dubai-based airline, echoed similar sentiments, urging passengers to allocate extra time for their journey to Dubai International Airport (DXB) due to anticipated delays caused by the severe weather. Passengers are advised to update their contact details and monitor flight statuses through the airline’s website for real-time updates.

Meanwhile, travelers utilizing the Etihad bus service between Zayed International Airport and Dubai have been advised by Etihad Airways to check in early to allow for additional travel time.

Residents of the United Arab Emirates experienced a tumultuous night as severe winds and heavy rainfall battered the region between 2 am and 4 am. While the National Center of Meteorology had initially predicted moderate to intense rainfall with sporadic lightning and thunder, authorities remained vigilant, with the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority reassuring readiness for any unpredictable weather events.

Despite the storm’s intensity, as of 6:30 am on Thursday, there were no reports of flooding in Dubai South. Nonetheless, precautionary measures were taken by some establishments, such as covering doors with plastic sheets and using sandbags as barriers against potential flooding.

Reports from across the nation described violent storms, heavy rain, and strong winds affecting various areas of Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah. Residents shared their experiences on social media platforms, detailing instances of garden furniture being swept away and neighborhoods being rattled by thunder and lightning.

As the nation braces for continued adverse weather conditions, authorities have implemented measures to ensure public safety, including the closure of tunnels and the encouragement of remote work arrangements for government and private sector employees.
