Postponement of Punjab Governor’s Oath-Taking Ceremony

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) senior leader Hassan Murtaza said on Sunday that the oath-taking ceremony for nominated Punjab governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan has been postponed.

Postponement of Punjab Governor’s Oath-Taking Ceremony to Tuesday.

As per PPP senior leader Hassan Murtaza, the scheduled oath-taking ceremony for Punjab’s nominated governor, Sardar Saleem Haider Khan, has been rescheduled for Tuesday, May 7, at 6:00 pm. Murtaza cited unavoidable reasons for the postponement.

President Asif Ali Zardari recently approved the appointments of governors for Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), and Balochistan provinces. This approval saw Sardar Saleem Haider Khan appointed as Governor Punjab, Faisal Karim Kundi as Governor KP, and Jaffar Khan Mandokhail as Governor Balochistan, based on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s advice under Article 101(1) of the Constitution.

The decision follows PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari’s nomination of Sardar Saleem Haider Khan and Faisal Karim Kundi for the governor positions in KP and Punjab respectively, as part of an agreement reached with PML-N before forming the coalition government.

This development stems from the agreement between PPP and PML-N after the February 8 general elections, wherein they devised a mechanism to establish a government at the Centre. As per the terms, the PPP would secure certain key constitutional positions in exchange for its support.
