Pakistan and Tajikistan Forge Strategic Partnership Agreement

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif declared that the strategic alliance between Pakistan and Tajikistan would bolster the already robust fraternal ties between the two nations.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s two-day official visit to Tajikistan, at the invitation of President Rahmon, marked a significant milestone in bilateral relations between the two nations. The visit underscored a renewed commitment to strengthening the deep-rooted ties based on shared history, culture, geographical proximity, and common faith.

During the visit, Prime Minister Sharif and President Rahmon engaged in comprehensive discussions covering a wide array of bilateral cooperation areas. These included trade, economy, investment, connectivity, culture, education, science and technology, defense, humanitarian aid, parliamentary exchanges, and people-to-people contacts. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing these multifaceted ties through strategic partnerships and collaboration across various sectors.

A pivotal outcome of the visit was the signing of a strategic partnership agreement, alongside multiple memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and agreements. These agreements spanned crucial sectors such as aviation, diplomacy, education, sports, social relations, industrial cooperation, and tourism. Such agreements are set to pave the way for deeper economic integration and cultural exchange between Pakistan and Tajikistan.

Prime Minister Sharif also took the opportunity to update President Rahmon on the situation in Occupied Kashmir, emphasizing shared concerns over human rights violations and the need for international efforts to promote peace in the region, including Gaza.

The visit included ceremonial honors, with Prime Minister Sharif receiving a warm welcome at Qasr e Millat, followed by private meetings and delegation-level talks with President Rahmon. A joint press conference highlighted the achievements of the visit, where Prime Minister Sharif expressed gratitude for the hospitality extended by Tajikistan.

Cultural diplomacy was also at the forefront, as Prime Minister Sharif visited the Ismail Samani Memorial and Qasr Nowruz in Dushanbe. These visits underscored the rich cultural and historical bonds between the two nations, further solidifying their people-to-people linkages.
