Internet Services Suspended During Muharram

QUETTA: The Balochistan government has announced the suspension of mobile and internet services in several cities on the 7th, 9th, and 10th of Muharram.

QUETTA: The Balochistan Home Ministry spokesperson announced the suspension of mobile and internet services in several cities, including Quetta, Kachhi, Jhal Magsi, Jaffarabad, and Usta Muhammad, on the 7th, 9th, and 10th of Muharram.

To ensure security on Youm-e-Ashurah, the provincial government has deployed over 18,000 personnel in Quetta. Additionally, two helicopters will be utilized for aerial surveillance of processions during these key dates.

In light of security concerns, Section 144 has been imposed in seven districts until the 10th of Muharram, prohibiting pillion riding and implementing other restrictions to maintain law and order.

Earlier, the federal government approved the deployment of armed forces nationwide to bolster security during Muharram. This decision came at the request of authorities from Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, allowing military assistance to manage the law and order situation. The Centre authorized this under Article 245 of the Constitution.

It’s important to note that Ashura will be observed in Pakistan on July 17 (Wednesday). Furthermore, the Sindh provincial government has imposed a ban on pillion riding throughout the first 10 days of Muharram.

Ashura, observed on the 10th day of Muharram, commemorates the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions in the historic Battle of Karbala.
